Indian Sports Honours returns for fifth edition with star-studded jury and new categories
The Indian Sports Honours (ISH), an iconic celebration of sports excellence initiated by Cornerstone Sport, returns for its fifth edition to recognize the outstanding achievements of India’s top athletes. The annual event, covering athletic performances from October 2023 to September 2024, will pay tribute to players who have excelled in Olympic sports, Paralympic sports, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games, and other major competitions.
Set to be held on Saturday, November 9, at JW Marriott in Juhu, Mumbai, the grand event will unveil the winners live, marking an exciting night for Indian sports enthusiasts.
Known for bringing together India’s sports and entertainment icons, the Indian Sports Honours event highlights the achievements of athletes across a wide range of sports, including cricket, squash, and chess, in addition to the traditional Olympic events.
It aims to celebrate the spirit and determination of athletes who push the boundaries of excellence. In partnership with Ernst & Young LLP (EY), serving as Process Advisors, Indian Sports Honours ensures a fair and transparent selection process with insights provided by Sportskeeda.
Distinguished jury to lead the selection process for Indian Sports Honours 2024
The selection panel for Indian Sports Honours includes some of India’s most respected sports figures, led by Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist, who chairs the jury. Joining him are legendary athlete and IOA President P.T. Usha, former shooting world champion Anjali Bhagwat, and Sanjog Gupta, the Head of Sports at Disney+ Star.
Other jury members include boxing champion Vijender Singh, wrestling Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, and former hockey captain Sardar Singh, all bringing a wealth of experience and insight.
Indian Sports Honours 2024 divides its honors into two main categories - Jury Honours and Popular Choice Honours. The Jury Honours include prominent awards like Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Team of the Year, and more, selected through an in-depth evaluation process.
Meanwhile, fans are encouraged to vote for their favorites in the Popular Choice Honours categories, such as Breakthrough Performance of the Year, Fan Club of the Year, and Club of the Year, with polls accessible through Twitter.
Jury Honours: Sportsman of the Year (Individual), Sportswoman of the Year (Individual), Para-Athlete of the Year (Male), Para-Athlete of the Year (Female), Coach of the Year (Male), Coach of the Year (Female), Team of the Year (Male), Team of the Year (Female), Sportsman of the Year (Team), and Sportswoman of the Year (Team).
Popular Choice Honours: Breakthrough Performance of the Year (Male), Breakthrough Performance of the Year (Female), Fan Club of the Year, and Club of the Year.
In a significant addition, this year’s ISH will introduce the Grassroots Initiative of the Year award, designed to acknowledge organizations and individuals who foster talent at the community level. The award aims to highlight the contributions of those working at the grassroots, inspiring the next generation of athletes through youth programs and sports outreach.
By recognizing such initiatives, ISH aims to encourage wider support for grassroots sports development. Additionally, the Lifetime Achievement Honour will celebrate individuals who have dedicated their lives to advancing Indian sports, honoring their lasting impact.
