Uttarakhand govt. adds milestone decisions to existing sports policy
The Uttarakhand government's 2021 sports policy was a landmark decision in the history of the state. In order to establish the state into a sports hub and inject the love and importance of sports into the youth, the 2021 sports policy was brought into existence.
And now, in 2024, Sports Minister Rekha Arya has announced a few additions to the already existing policy. She wrote on her social media handle (translated from Hindi):
"Today we are very happy to inform that, proving our commitment to the all-round development of sports activities in Uttarakhand, we have issued a government order to increase the honorarium of contract sports trainers and give them a three-year contract."
She added to the same, stating:
"This decision will not only benefit the sports trainers but will also help more than ever in honing the talent of promising players of Uttarakhand. For this historic decision, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami ji and congratulate all the sports trainers and wish you a bright future."
Moreover, one more step was added to the same. Rekha Arya has said that Uttarakhand's athletes who will be participating in national level competitions, will be provided AC bus or three tier AC train facility instead of ordinary bus and sleeper train fare. A government order has also been made on July 15.
How does Uttarakhand's sports policy help the state?
Sports and physical activities are important in the growth of the youth. In order to help the youth get involved in sports and to escalate Uttarakhand into a sports hub, a landmark sports policy was brought into existence back in 2021. Most of the focus was kept on the welfare of the athletes and measures were promised to ensure infrastructural growth in the state.
Technology and reach to the rural areas has also been promised to inculcate the sporting values to the people throughout the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also promised financial rewards for athletes.
