Rahul Banerjee fluffs his last shot

As Rahul Banerjee walked to the white line to draw his first arrow against Rafal Dobrowolski little did he know that the Polish national would match him shot for shot.

The first set ended in a tie with a score of 28-28. Both the archers shared the points.

It was a good start for Banerjee, but he fell short by two points in the next and the second set went in Dobrowlski’s favour.

Banerjee seized the momentum from Dobrowolski with two perfect 10s in the third set. He was back on level terms with Dobrowlski on 3 points.

The Polish archer turned the tabled with two 10s in the fourth set and he won it 29-26 exchanging fist-bumps with his coach.

In the deciding fifth set, Rahul Banerjee needed to strike the 12.2 cm inner circle in his last shot to take the match into a shoot-off. He couldn’t capitalise on a two point lead and Dobrowlski finished off with a 10.

India’s last hope in Men’s archery falls on Tarundeep Rai as he starts his campaign in a few minutes.
