Roma coach ecstatic after win over Napoli

Former Spanish midfielder Luis Enrique claimed he was living his happiest day as AS Roma head coach after his side beat Napoli 3-1 away at Stadio San Paolo.

“This is my happiest day on the Roma bench,” Xinhua reported. “It was a completely crazy game, though. We were lucky and worked hard, but frankly any result could have come out at the end.

“Today my team welcomed modern football, because if you play against Napoli with a line-up that isn’t both offensive and defensive together, then you are dead. The players have to sacrifice themselves.”

It seemed a long way away from Enrique’s possession football, as most of the goals came on the counter.

“I hope to learn Italian soon and become more Italian in football terms, though I’ll never give up on attacking football.

“Everyone knows we play ball to feet and with that style there is always the chance to run into space, but I still think the best way of defending is to keep possession in the opposition area,” he said.
