Rude shock for Deepika Kumari
A huge upset by Amy Oliver saw World No 1, Deepika Kumari crash out of Women’s Archery Individual event today.
The British World No 4, brought her A-game to the Lord’s arena and India’s hope of a medal extinguished with Deepika’s exit.
The Indian archer could only win a single set against Amy, amid strong local support for the British archer. She won the tie 6-2.
Despite strong winds measuring as much as 2.2 m/s, Amy hit the bullseye not once but thrice.
The first and the third set was a close contest between the archers, but Amy won both with a score 0f 27-26.
Deepika, despite the strong buildup to the Individual event failed to win when it mattered the most.
That brings an end to the hopes of a medal from the Indian archery contingent.
The 18 year old Indian archer still has a long way to go in the world of archery.
