Football:
1989 – Hillsborough disaster. The incident occurred during the FA Cup semifinal match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. The disaster resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others.
1982 – Birthday of Albert Riera, Spanish footballer who is currently playing for Galatasaray.
Cricket:
1986 – Viv Richards scored a century off 56 balls against England in the Test match at Antigua.
Basketball:
1991 – Sacramento Kings set NBA record with 35th straight road loss – they ended at 37.
