1. IPL 6: Sharma leads Mumbai to close win

Rohit Sharma played a sizzling knock to take his team over the line against Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League here Monday.

Sharma continued with his rich form in the tournament, plundering 79 off 39 balls in Mumbai’s 174 for three. The strong bowling line-up then did enough to limit Punjab to 170 as the match was decided on the final ball. David Miller’s 56 went in vain while Harbhajan Singh (3/14) was the stand out bowler for Mumbai.

2. Watson, Samson carry Rajasthan over the line:

Shane Watson’s brilliant all-round effort and a brisk half-century by Sanju Samson helped Rajasthan Royals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match here Monday. Rajasthan Royals thus maintained their unbeaten run at home at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

3. Benteke treble sparks Villa’s joy of six:

Christian Benteke scored a second-half hat-trick as Aston Villa thrashed Sunderland 6-1 to give themselves real hope of avoiding relegation from the English Premier League. Victory saw Villa pull five points clear of the drop zone with three games left to play.

4. NBA star Jason Collins says he’s gay

NBA center Jason Collins became the first active player in a major professional American team sport to reveal that he is gay, doing so to Sports Illustrated in a major cover story released on Monday.

Collins, who is now a free agent, has played in the NBA for 12 seasons with six teams, spending this past campaign with the Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards. He helped the New Jersey Nets reach the 2002 and 2003 NBA Finals.

5. Hawks pull even with Pacers while Nets avoid ouster:

Atlanta Hawks’ Josh Smith scored a basket in the final minutes of their win over Indiana on April 29, 2013. He scored a career playoff high 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Atlanta over the Pacers 102-91, pulling the Hawks level at 2-2 in the best-of-seven series.

6. China’s Ding eyes world title

China’s Ding Junhui said he felt “ready” to win the World Championship after booking a quarter-final place with a 13-9 win over Mark King at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre on Monday.

No Chinese player has yet won the World Championship, but former Masters and UK champion Ding has long been tipped as the man most likely to make that breakthrough and take snooker’s top title to a country where the sport has been enjoying a boom for several years.
