1964: Geoff Boycott scores his 1st Test Cricket century, 113 v Australia at the Oval. He has scored 100 first class hundreds.
1979: Ashish Nehra, Indian left-arm seamer was born today. He was also a part of the 2011 World Cup winning team.
1997: Aravinda de Silva became the first man in history to score two unbeaten hundreds in a Test against Pakistan at SSC, Colombo.
Tennis:
1952: Guillermo Vilas, tennis player from Argentina was born today. Notable grand slam wins – US Open 1977.
1970 - Jim Courier, tennis player from Sanford Florida (Grand slam – 1990, 91 French Open) was born today.
Formula One:
1952: Nelson Piquet, auto racer, 3-time Formula One champ in 1981, 1983 and 1987 was born today.
Boxing:
1987: Mohammad Ali gets elected to “Ring” magazine’s Boxing Hall of Fame.
