1995: Norway won the Women’s World Cup with a balanced mix of overpowering offense and stifling defense.
2002: Bolton Wanderers completed the signing of Nigeria’s World Cup star Jay Jay Okocha from Paris Saint-Germain.

1966: Birth of Luke Jensen, a former professional male tennis player from the United States.
1986: Birth of Richard Gasquet, a French tennis player. He won the mixed doubles Grand Slam title at the 2004 French Open, partnering with Tatiana Golovin. His career-high singles ranking is World No. 7
Basketball
1924: Birth of George Lawrence Mikan, nicknamed Mr. Basketball, an NBA center (6-time all-pro).
