1995: Dennis Bergkamp scores his first goals for Arsenal, in his seventh appearance for the Gunners. He scored 87 goals for the Londoners in 315 appearances.
2012: Chelsea captain and former England captain John Terry retires from international football after a racism scandal.
Cricket
1985: Birthday of India and Mumbai Indians cricketer Ambati Rayudu.
1952: Birthday of former Indian opener Anshuman Gaekwad, who was also known as Sunil Gavaskar’s right-hand man, whom he also partnered at the crease. He also scored what was at that time the slowest double century in Tests, off 436 balls.
1971: Birthday of former Pakistani wicket-keeper Moin Khan.
Baseball
1845: First ever baseball team formed, the New York Knickerbockers, and adopt rule code for the game.
