Cricket
1970: Birth of Mushtaq Ahmed, a Pakistani former cricketer who currently acts as the spin bowling coach for the England cricket team. A leg-break bowler, at his peak he was described as being one of the best three wrist-spinners in the world.
1888: Birth of George Challenor, who was the first West Indian to face the first ball in their cricket history.
1969: John Hampshire of England scored 107 on Test cricket debut vs West Indies at Lord’s.
1934: Birth of Roy Gilchrist, a West Indian cricketer who played 13 Tests for the West Indies in the 1950s. He was born in Saint Thomas, Jamaica and died of Parkinson’s disease in St Catherine, Jamaica at the age of 67.
Football
2001: Boca Juniors won their second consecutive Copa Libertadores beating Cruz Azul on penalties, 1-1 (3-1).
2006: After three years on the fringes of the side at Chelsea, Glen Johnson opted to spend a season on loan at Portsmouth.
Tennis
1964: Birth of Susan Mascarin, a former American tennis player from Grosse Pointe Shores Michigan. She was the US Open Girls’ Singles champion in 1980.
1973: Birth of Alberto Berasategui, a former professional tennis player from Spain. He reached the Men’s Singles final at the French Open in 1994.
1977: Birth of Lindsay Lee-Waters, an American tennis player. She won eleven singles and sixteen doubles events organized by International Tennis Federation.
