Tintu Luka fails to make it to the 800m finals
Tintu Luka finished 6th in the 2nd Heat in the semi-finals of the Women’s 800m event with a time of 1:59.69 and lost out on a position in the final 8 by finishing 11th overall. Luka finished behind Caster Semenya (1:57.67), Elena Arzhakova (1:58.13), Janeth Jepkosgei Businei (1:58.26), Alysia Johnson Montano (1:58.42) and Halima Hachlaf (1:58.84).
Though Tinku put up her season best effort, short of her personal best of 1:59.17, she wasn’t able to convert it to winning performance. For over the first 400m of the race, she looked set at the 4th position but fell back during the latter stages of the race.
South African Caster Semenya Caster finished on top overall, followed by Russia’s Elena Arzhakova, Kenyan Janeth Jepkosgei and American Alysia Johnson Montano, all from 2nd Heat. Despite such strong contention, it was a fine effort from Tinku Luka.
