Velikov overpowers young Amit Kumar; through to Bronze medal bout
Bulgaria’s Marinov Velikov overpowered India’s Amit Kumar in straight rounds in his second repechage bout. Neither wrestler was able to score a point from open play, but luck was in Velikov’s favour, as he got the advantage in the clinch on both occasions.
The first round was fairly tentative, with neither player gaining the advantage. A lucky pick for the Bulgarian saw him have the advantage in the clinch, and he gained the point immediately, crushing the Indian’s resisitance.
The second round saw Velikov go on the defensive, and he successfully held off Amit Kumar till the end of the round. The Indian drew a red ball, which meant that Velikov again had the advantage in the clinch. Velikov won the point, albeit with a bit of resistance this time, and thus won the match in two straight rounds.
