Ghosal progresses; end of the road for Mangaonkar, Sandhu
Chennai, Dec 11 (PTI): India's Saurav Ghosal advanced to the second round of the World Squash Championship at Manchester, England, while two of his compatriots bowed out in the men's section.
Ghosal, the national champion, was the lone survivor while Mahesh Mangaonkar and Harinder Pal Sandhu, who entered the main draw via the qualifying phase suffered first-round defeats late on Sunday, a Squash Rackets Federation of India release said here.
Ghosal was a touch lucky as his first round opponent, ninth-seeded James Willstrop of England retired after playing and losing the first game 6-11.
Ill-health forced the Englishman to quit. The match had lasted just 10 minutes before the abrupt end.
Ghosal will next meet England's Ben Coleman, who beat Sandhu 11-4, 11-6, 11-4 in the opening round.
Mangaonkar was beaten by the 13th-seed Daryl Selby, also of England. Selby won 11-8, 11-5, 11-5.
Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal Karthik are the two Indian representatives in the women's section and they play their first round matches later today
