Kush Kumar lost in the quarter-finals of Atlanta Open

Indian squash ace Kush Kumar’s run at the $10, 000 Life Time Atlanta Open 2016 came to an end late on Friday as he went down fighting in the quarter-finals. The fourth seed squandered a one-game lead to bow out to the eighth-seeded South African Clinton Leeuw, 11-9, 2-11, 4-11, 7-11.

The 19-year-old World No. 91 was the only Indian playing at this tournament.

This was Kush’s first PSA Tour event of the year. The former World Junior Squash Championships bronze medallist had come to this tournament on the back of a sizzling upset of the much higher-ranked Farhan Zaman of Pakistan, which had given India the gold at the South Asian Games Men’s Team Championships.

On Thursday, he had played a solid match to get the better of Canadian qualifier Albert Shoihet, 11-9, 13-11, 11-7 in his opening round at the Atlanta Open.
