Anahat Singh blanks Akari Midorikawa to win Costa North Coast Open 2024
Third seed Anahat Singh defeated sixth seed Akari Midorikawa 3-0 in the final to win the Costa North Coast Open 2024 in Coffs Harbour on Sunday (November 3). She blanked the Japanese player with trio scores of 11-6.
The 16-year-old Indian athlete continued her title-winning spree, clinching her third PSA Challenger title in less than three months.
Anahat Singh received a bye in the first round of the Costa North Coast Open 2024. In the second round, she was up against Hong Kong's Bobo Lam, whom she defeated 3-0 in straight games with scores of 11-6, 11-8, 11-8.
The Indian athlete took on eighth seed Helen Tang in the quarterfinal on Friday (November 1) in Coffs Harbour. She defeated Helen 3-0 with scores of 11-8, 11-4, 11-7 to storm into the semis.
The 16-year-old Indian squared off against Hong Kong's Kirstie Wong in the first semi-final and won the match 3-1 against the seventh-seeded player on Saturday (November 2).
Anahat Singh won the first game 11-5 and succumbed to a 7-11 defeat in the second. She won the next couple of games with scores of 11-7 and 11-9 to move one step closer to winning the title.
In the second semi-final, Japan's Akari Midorikawa registered a hard-fought 3-2 victory over New Zealand's Ella Lash. The Japanese player started on a strong note, winning 11-5 and 11-9 in the first two games.
She suffered a 2-11 loss in the third game and a 6-11 loss in the fourth, forcing the match into the decider. Akari stunned fourth seed Ella Lash with an 11-5 victory in the fifth game to earn a spot in the final.
