Asian Doubles Squash Championships 2024: Abhay Singh poised to win two gold medals 

Indian squash player Abhay Singh is on the brink of clinching two gold medals at the 2024 Asian Doubles Squash Championships in Johor, Malaysia. The Asian Games gold medalist is well-positioned to achieve this feat, as he secured his spots in the finals of both the men's doubles and mixed doubles events on Saturday, July 6.

Abhay, along with his partner Velavan Senthilkumar, secured their spot in the men's doubles final by defeating Tomotaka Endo and Naoki Hayashi. They claimed victory over their Japanese counterparts with scores of 11-9 and 11-2 in just 23 minutes. In the final, they will face off against second-seeded Ong Sai Hung and Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia.

Later, Abhay teamed up with Joshna Chinappa to prevail over the Hong Kong pair of Cheng Nga Ching and Lai Cheuk Nam Matthew 11-8, 11-10 in the mixed doubles semifinals. The third seeds will next face the second seeds, Tong Tsz Wing and Tang Ming Hong of Hong Kong, in the final showdown.


Abhay Singh reflects on advancing to two finals at Asian Doubles Squash Championships

Abhay Singh was delighted to reach two finals at the 2024 Asian Doubles Squash Championships in Johor, Malaysia. Reflecting on both semifinals, the 25-year-old said that the men's match was comfortable, acknowledging the mixed event was quite difficult. He further emphasized that they aim to convert both opportunities into gold medals.

“I’m very pleased to be in both the finals; winning two gold was the goal before we came here, so that’s what we are focused on Sunday," Singh said.
"The men’s match was a comfortable 2-0, while the mixed match was a bit challenging, but still pleased to come through without dropping a game. Being in another final of an Asian Championship is an honor, and I am looking forward to converting them both.”

It remains to be seen if Abhay Singh comes out on top in the finals of both events.
