HCL Squash Tour Chennai 2024 Day 1 Results: Harinder Pal Sandhu registers comfortable victory
The opening day of the HCL Squash Tour 2024 in Chennai saw some exciting contests at the Indian Squash Academy on Tuesday (June 4). Fan-favorite Harinder Pal Sandhu defeated Shravin Jain in straight sets with scores of 11-5, 11-6, 11-4.
Lokesh S, Ravi Dixit, Rudra Singh, Trina Iris, and Kriya Saravanan also registered straight-set victories against their opponents in Round 1 of the competition.
Rahul Balakrishnan, Arihant K S, Guhan Senthilkumar, and Tushar Shahani won their matches in four sets. They conceded a set each to their opponents but managed to come back stronger and secure a place in the second round of the HCL Squash Tour Chennai 2024.
Meanwhile, Sangamithra Shanmugham succumbed to a defeat against Eesha Shrivastava despite a strong start. Sangamithra won the first couple of sets with scores of 11-7, 11-9. However, she failed to carry the momentum into the next sets as she lost three in a row 8-11, 9-11, 4-11, eventually losing the match in five sets.
On the other hand, in an all-overseas clash, Sri Lanka's Hirantha Goonesena took on Kuwait's Saleh Altawari in a thriller. The latter won the first set 6-11 but lost the next couple of sets 11-7, 11-8 to Hirantha.
Altawari secured a hard-fought 12-14 victory in the fourth set, forcing the match into the decider. However, he lost the fifth set 11-7 and the match to Hirantha Goonesena.
