Qatar Junior Open squash: Arnav Tevatia and Abhay Singh shine for India
Two Indians Arnav Tevatia in the U-11 section and Abhay Singh in the U-19 earned spotlight in the Qatar Junior Open squash, an event of the Qatar Squash Federation held in Doha. Arnav finished runner-up while Abhay, a trainee at the Indian Squash Academy in Chennai took the third spot.
Two other Indians Druv Ajay Vazirani (U-15)and Dev Ajay Vazirani (U-17) had also taken part in the tournament.
The results:
Under 11: Arnav Tevatia bt Saleh Zaman (Qatar)11-1, 11-5, 11-0 in the quarters; beat Salem Yousef Al-Malik (Qat) 11-7, 11-5, 11-7 in semis; lost to Muhammad Huzaifa Ibrahim (Pak) 8-11, 8-11, 8-11 in the final.
U-15: Druv Ajay Vazirani bt Ahmad Al Meraikhi (Qatar) 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 in rd 1; bt Hussein Ayad Al- Tameemi (Iraq) 11-9, 11-6, 11-4 in rd 2 ; lost to (7) Waleed Zaman (Qat) 11-5, 10-12, 7-11, 9-11in quarters.
U-17: (5) Dev Ajay Vazirani lost to Zeeshan Ullah Gul (Pak) 6-11, 10-12, 8-11 in first round
U-19: Abhay Singh (3) bt Assad Abid Khan (Pak) 11-1, 11-1, 11-9 in Rd 1; bt Umair Zaman (Qat) 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 12-10 in qtrs; lost to Israr Ahmad 1) (Pak) 3-11, 7-11, 11-8, 10-12 in the semis. Abhay bt Lai Cheuk Nam Matthew(4) (HongKong) 5-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-5 for third place.
