3 interesting things about Indian athletes training for Paris 2024 Olympics
The Paris 2024 Olympics is only 18 days away and the Indian contingent is training hard to make sure the nation secures more medals this time out compared to the previous editions. The Tokyo Games saw India grab only seven medals, out of which only one was a gold. The edition prior to this was the Rio Games, where India secured only two medals through PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik.
The Paris 2024 Olympics is a solid challenge for the contingent and the athletes have already adapted necessary measures for the mega event. Today, we'll unfold three interesting things which are related to the Indian contingent.
#1 PV Sindhu's preparation team has 10 members
PV Sindhu, who has won two medals at the Olympic Games, is currently in Germany, preparing for the Paris Games. However, she is not alone. Her mentor Prakash Padukone is there with her along with her chief coach, two assistant coaches, a mental strength and conditioning coach, and five sparring partners. It means she is training with 10 people at this moment.
#2 Manika Batra has a special table
Manika Batra has found a cheat code? Well, a table-tennis table has been imported from China for her. Notably, this is the same table which will be used in the upcoming Summer Games. This table is expected to help Batra understand the spin, speed and bounce of the table. The Indian table tennis team has been using some technologies for the past few months and this is certainly one of the modern thoughts inculcated into the sport in India.
#3 Various facilities for other athletes
Notably, silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, Mirabai Chanu has been given an iPad and a high-speed camera. Indian badminton's budding star HS Prannoy has received funding for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and red light therapy.
India's representative in dressage (equestrian) Anush Agarwalla has been provided with special food, saddle pads, boots, and blankets for his horse. Sharath Kamal, who'll represent India in table tennis, has been given funds for various tests. India's boxing world champion Nikhat Zareen has received a laser unit to detect even the most minor injuries.
