3 shooters who can win a medal for India in shooting at Paris 2024 Olympics

The excitement is palpable as the Olympics begin tomorrow (July 26). India has a rich history of success in shooting, with Abhinav Bindra famously clinching gold.

Our shooting contingent has consistently performed well on the global stage, and this year, India is sending 21 talented shooters. In this article, we'll throw the spotlight on three shooters who have the best chance of winning an Olympic medal.


Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar

Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar has had an impressive career in shooting. He is the most successful Indian shooter to participate in the 2023 Asian Games, securing four medals. In 2023 he won the gold medal in the 50m rifle three positions event at the Asian Shooting Championship.

Beginning his journey to the top, he won accolades at the 2021 New Delhi ISSF World Cup by bagging a gold medal in the 50m rifle three positions and a silver and a bronze medal in the team events.

A year earlier, at the 2019 Doha Asian Shooting Championships, Aishwary claimed two bronze medals in the 50m rifle three positions individual and team events. He continued his success by winning the 2021 ISSF Junior World Championships in Lima in the 50m rifle three positions event. Aishwary's consistency in performance and dedication make him a strong contender for the upcoming Olympics.


Sift Kaur Samra

Sift Kaur Samra took the shooting fraternity by storm at the 2022 Asian Games, winning a gold and a silver medal. She's competing in the Women’s 50m rifle 3 positions at the upcoming Olympics.

She went on to bag five medals at the Junior World Cups. Sift also holds the current world record in the Women's 50-metre rifle three positions final, which she set while winning the gold medal in this event at the 2022 Asian Games.

Rhythm Sangwan

Rhythm Sangwan is a strong contender for India in the Olympics, with a good chance of winning a medal. She competes in the Women's 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events. She has already won a gold medal at the Asian Games.

At the 2023 World Championships, Rhythm won a gold medal in the 25m pistol team event in Baku and another gold in the 25m standard pistol event in Cairo. Her achievements make her a top shooting athlete.
