Neeraj Chopra's best 5 throws UPDATED ft. 89.45 mts. in Paris Olympics
Neeraj Chopra has become India's first athlete to own an Olympic gold and silver medal. He won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, and now, he has captured the silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
It is pertinent to note that Neeraj Chopra was dealing with injury issues while competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, that did not stop him from executing a season-best 89.45m throw and achieving the second position on the final leaderboard.
While the throw from Neeraj in Paris was his season-best in 2024, here's an updated all-time list of his best throws.
#5 89.08m - Lausanne Diamond League 2022
Neeraj Chopra finished first in the Lausanne Diamond League 2022 hosted by Switzerland. The javelin throw event happened on August 26, and Neeraj cleared the 89m meter mark for the third time in his career.
His throw covered a distance of 89.08m, allowing him an entry into the finals, which happened in Zurich. Neeraj finished at the top in the finals as well, with a throw of 88.44m.
#4 89.30m - Paavo Nurmi Games 2022
Paavo Nurmi Games take place annually in Finland. Neeraj Chopra finished second in the 2022 edition of the games with his then-personal best throw of 89.30m.
This was the first time Neeraj's throw covered a distance of 89m. However, Neeraj's best effort was not enough for a first-place finish. Local star Oliver Helander finished at the helm of the leaderboard with a throw of 89.83m.
#3 89.34m - Paris 2024 Olympics qualification round
Neeraj Chopra announced his arrival in Paris with a fantastic throw of 89.34m in the qualifying round. It was a 'one and done' thing for the Indian javelin throw star, who secured his place in the final with just a single attempt.
Chopra ran towards the mark with confidence and executed his throw perfectly to touch the 89.34m distance. It was the best performance by any athlete in the Paris 2024 Olympics men's javelin throw qualification round.
#2 89.45m - Paris 2024 Olympics final
While Neeraj would have hoped to clear the 90m mark in the final, he managed a season-best throw of 89.45m in his second attempt. He secured the silver medal in Paris with this throw.
Neeraj looked a bit off-color due to his injury. However, that did not stop him from bettering the distance he covered in the qualification round and winning a silver medal for India.
#1 Neeraj Chopra's best throw - 89.94m, Stockholm Diamond League 2022
Neeraj Chopra fell just six centimeters short of the 90m meter mark during the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022. All of his six throws were valid, and four of them even cleared 85m distance.
The first throw itself covered a distance of 89.94m. Interestingly, Neeraj did not finish first despite his personal best throw. Grenada's Anderson Peters, who won the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, finished first in the Stockholm Diamond League 2022 with a distance of 90.31m in his third attempt.
