Aman Sehrawat lost 4.6 kg in just 10 hours before the bronze medal bout at the Paris Olympics 2024 - Reports
While Vinesh Phogat tried her best to reduce her weight to be ready for her final bout, India’s young and rising wrestler Aman Sehrawat lost 4.6 kg in just 10 hours, according to PTI reports. He did it to be within the permissible weight limits for his 57 kg men’s freestyle bronze medal bout at the Paris Olympics 2024.
It’s worth noting that while Vinesh is 29 years old, Aman is only 21. The ability to lose weight varies from person to person, with younger individuals typically having a faster metabolism.
After his semi-final defeat against Japan’s Rei Higuchi, Aman Sehrawat weighed 4.5 kg more than the permissible limit.
With the weigh-in conducted on both days of the competition for the qualifying athletes at the Summer Games, Aman, and his support staff had 10 hours to lose the excess 4.5 kg weight. He ultimately cut down 4.6 kg.
How did Aman Sehrawat lose his excess weight?
They started with a one-and-a-half-hour mat session during which the wrestler was involved in standing wrestling. Later, Aman was part of a one-hour hot-both session, followed by a gym session, running on the treadmill for one hour non-stop.
After a 30-minute break, he had five sessions of a five-minute sauna bath. The excess sweating in the sauna bath and running in the gym led to excess sweating and helped in cutting weight for the wrestler.
However, Aman Sehrawat was still 900 grams above the permissible weigh-in limit. Later, he was asked to do light jogging, followed by five 15-minute training sessions.
These final steps allowed him to lose the excess weight, bringing his weight down to 56.9 kgs. He was given lukewarm water with lemon and honey and some coffee during the weight loss process to gain energy. Notably, the wrestler didn’t sleep during this whole process.
“I watched videos of wrestling bouts, the whole night. We kept checking his weight every hour. We didn’t sleep the whole night, not even during the day,” India national wrestling team coach Virender Dahiya told PTI.
“Weight cutting is routine, normal for us but there was tension, a lot of tension due to what happened the other day (with Vinesh). We could not let slip another medal,” he added.
