Aman Sehrawat promoted as Northern Railways OSD after Paris Olympics 2024 record
Aman Sehrawat has been promoted to the post of officer of On Special Duty (OSD) at the Northern Railways. The wrestler was rewarded as he brought India’s only medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Sehrawat won the bronze medal in the men’s 57kg category event at the quadrennial event. He is also now India's youngest medalist at the Olympics. At the age of 21 years and 24 days, he toppled PV Sindhu, who bagged silver in women’s badminton in Rio 2016 at 21 years and 14 days.
"In a meeting held at the Northern Railway Headquarters, General Manager Shri Shobhan Chaudhuri presented a token of appreciation to the Olympian for winning the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024,” Himanshu S Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer, was quoted as saying in a statement.
"On this occasion, Shri Sujit Kumar Mishra, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, Northern Railway promoted Shri Aman Sehrawat for his Olympic medal win and appointed him as OSD/Sports," the statement added.
How did Aman Sehrawat perform at the Paris 2024 Olympics?
Aman Sehrawat was India’s only male wrestler at the Paris Olympics and he made his country proud. He started his campaign with a dominating performance against Vladimir Egorov from North Macedonia, winning the match via technical superiority.
Thereafter, he got the better of Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakarov, yet again via technical superiority. But his streak ended after Rei Higuchi beat him in the semi-final. Higuchi would eventually go on to win the gold medal.
After stumbling against Higuchi, Aman Sehrawat came out firing against Puerto Rico’s Darian Cruz. Sehrawat won the match comfortably to secure India their sixth and final medal.
India had a chance to win another medal but Vinesh Phogat’s appeal for a joint silver was turned down on Wednesday by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAC). Vinesh had qualified for the 50kg final but was disqualified due to being overweight.
