Amit Panghal bows out of the Paris 2024 Olympics after a loss against Zambia's Patrick Chinyemba
Amit Panghal's highly anticipated bout at the Paris 2024 Olympics ended in disappointment as he lost 4-1 to Zambian boxer Patrick Chinyemba. The match started with Amit adopting a defensive approach, but Chinyemba's aggressive style quickly became evident. Amit managed to land some good punches in the opening round, but Chinyemba's superior footwork and agility gave him a 3-2 lead.
As the second round commenced, Amit continued to struggle with Chinyemba's speed and movement.
Despite landing a solid left jab to the Zambian's chin, Amit found it difficult to counter his opponent's quick footwork and precise attacks. Chinyemba's ability to evade punches and land calculated strikes resulted in another 3-2 win for him, putting Amit in a tough spot.
The final round saw Amit attempting a more aggressive strategy to turn the match around.
However, Chinyemba maintained his dominance with excellent footwork and accurate punches. Amit Panghal's efforts to close the gap were in vain as the Zambian boxer continued to outmanoeuvre him. The round ended with a decisive 5-0 score in favor of Chinyemba, sealing his victory.
After Amit Panghal's exit, Nishant Dev remains only male Indian boxer at Paris 2024
Following Amit Panghal's elimination, Nishant Dev remains the sole male boxer from India with a chance for a podium finish at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Since Vijender Singh's achievement in Beijing 2008, no male Indian boxer has secured an Olympic medal.
Nishant, who received a bye in the opening round, is slated to face Ecuador's Jose Rodriguez Tenorio on August 1. He is well-prepared for this crucial match.
Nishant's path to the 2024 Paris Olympics wasn't easy. His journey began with a setback in the quarterfinals of the 1st Boxing World Qualification Tournament, where he lost to USA’s Omari Jones by split decision, forcing him to start anew.
Nishant's hopes were pinned on the 2nd Boxing World Qualification Tournament held in Bangkok in May. He showcased impressive skill, winning four consecutive bouts. His victory against Mongolia’s Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar secured him the coveted spot for Paris.
