Arshad Nadeem prize money: How much prize money was awarded to the Olympics javelin throw gold medalist?
Pakistan's javelin throw sensation, Arshad Nadeem, must be riding high with pride. The javelin thrower was showered with love, praise and cash prizes after winning the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Arshad's achievement came in the men's javelin throw final on August 8.
With the first-place finish, Nadeem became Pakistan's first individual Olympic gold medal winner. The Pakistani will receive a prize of $50,000 US, approximately PKR 1 crore 40 lakhs.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not award any cash rewards to Olympic medal winners. However, Arshad will receive the sum from World Athletics instead. Ahead of the Summer Games, the World Athletics body announced they would reward the gold medals with a cash prize.
Aside from the $50,000, the 27-year-old is expected to collect more than PKR 150 million in prize money from other sources in Pakistan. According to Pakistan's Dawn news agency, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab's Chief Minister, has announced a PKR 100 million prize.
In addition, Pakistan's Punjab Governor, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, announced a cash prize of PKR 2 million. While the CM of Sindh has announced a reward of PKR 50 million, the governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has announced another PKR 1 million.
Pakistan's renowned singer, Ali Zafar, and cricketer, Ahmed Shahzad, have promised PKR 1 million each.
Arshad Nadeem catches the sporting world's imagination at Paris Olympics 2024
