"Ban this sport from Olympics"; "Nishant Dev robbed" - Fans vent their anger on social media after Nishant Dev loses Olympics QF
Fans were left fuming on the controversial judgement as boxer Nishant Dev crashed out of the Paris Olympics with a 4-1 loss against Mexico’s Marco Verde in the men’s 71kg quarterfinals. Nishant who started the bout in a lead, suddenly found himself on the other, as Marco Verde sealed the final rounds.
The Indian fans, however, felt that the judgement was partial and unfair to Nishant who performed quite well. They took to X to vent their anger on the referees and call them out for the same.
"THIS IS ROBBERY!! Nishant Dev was the clear winner. Boxing is so rigged, no one knows how the judges are scoring. No transparency, just unorganised & based on favoritism & luck. WWE matches make more sense than this clownery they calling boxing rn!" wrote a fan.
"Nishant Dev robbed. Fraud boxing. Judges are a Joke. Can’t believe," wrote another.
"These were the great blind judges out there!!! Someone tag these blind people!!" quipped the third.
"Nishant dev robbed of a medal. He was clearly dominating the match. The system in Boxing needs to be more transparent. No way the five Fury can decide the result of a match. This is Plain Cheating in Boxing," claimed a fan.
"Nishant left that Mexican with a big dent on his head in the second round but I guess judges were busy watching gymnastics on their ipads," added another.
"Why do you even need players in the ring when the judges only have to vote for the nationality? Really unfortunate," posted yet another fan.
"Judges unfairly supported the opponent. Nishant Dev was the clear winner. This was blatant cheating. 💔 Ban this sport from the #OlympicGames," tweeted a user.
