Chilling death threats made to Israeli athletes at Paris Olympics 2024; threatened with invites to their own funerals
In a terrifying turn of events, the Israeli athletes at Paris Olympics 2024, have been subject to death threats. Ahead of the Summer Games, the athletes have received threatening emails and calls from unidentified foreign numbers.
The emails received were signed by an unidentifiable and entity ‘the People’s Defence Organization’ and stated a possible attack on the Israeli contingent in Paris.
“The People’s Defence Organization announces that it intends to harm any Israeli presence at the Olympics. The Jewish lobby that controls the French Parliament won’t decide anything anymore,” the email read (via the Times of Israel).
The letter contained more chilling threats for Israeli athletes at Paris Olympics 2024. It further threatened a repeat of the Munich Massacre of 1972, an unfortunate event that saw a terrorist group break into the Olympic village and take Israeli athletes hostage, eventually murdering 11 athletes and a German officer.
“Therefore you are not invited to Paris 2024. If you come, take into account that we intend to repeat the events of Munich 1972,” it read, continuing, “You will be awaiting attack at every moment- in the airport, the hotel and the streets which belong only to us. Even a wave of arrests against our organization won’t stop us from seeing our plan through. Prepare for the intifada!”
Israeli athletes at Paris Olympics 2024 receive bone-chilling invites to their own funerals
In another bizarre threat, a few of the Israeli athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024, including the flag bearer at the opening ceremony, judoka Peter Paltchik and swimmer Meiron Amir Cheruti received letters inviting them to their own funerals.
A screenshot of one of the messages, which lists Cheruti’s death date as July 27, 2024, invited the swimmer to his own funeral.
The threats to the Israeli athletes at Paris Olympics 2024 have warranted Israel’s Olympic Committee to be alert but the committee has termed the threats as 'trolling'. However, the committee has ensured they are prepared if something wrong were to happen.
“It was clear to us that this kind of trolling would happen. We’ve instructed the athletes on how to react if it happens and we had a lot of conversations and meetings on the subject,” Yael Arad, the chairwoman of the committee stated.
