CRPF's K9 Unit arrives in Paris for the Summer Olympics 2024

Summer Olympics 2024 will see India's CRPF K9 Unit as one of the forces providing security in the event. Two teams have reached Paris, and they will be distributed among the different venues at the Summer Olympics 2024 with eight other K9 Units. The teams will be responsible for the safety and security of the venue and the spectators who will be coming to watch the event live.

Central Reserve Police Force is India's security force that came into existence in 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police. After India's independence in 1947, the force was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force. For the Summer Olympics 2024, two K9s were selected from CRPF to be deployed with their handlers during the event from July 26 to August 11.

A total of 10 K9s have been deployed in Paris as of now. The other eight K9s come from Assam Rifles, Sashastra Seema Bal, the National Security Guard, and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. K9s are the most preferred breed of dogs used by the security forces. According to CRPF, all 10 K9s were given a training of 10 weeks before their deployment.

Upon the French government's request, 10 different teams of K9 dogs and their handlers have been put as a part of the security for the Olympics. The names of the two K9s from CRPF are Vast and Denby. They both, along with their handlers, went through rigorous training at the Dog Breeding and Training School of CRPF.


France takes major steps for security in Paris Olympics 2024

The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024 is scheduled to take place on July 26. France's organizing committee and the government have taken the necessary security steps for the smooth running of the event. For the opening ceremony, metal security barriers have been installed, which will be there at the banks of the River Seine till July 27.

The government has also introduced an Anti-terrorist protection perimeter. It says that the riverside areas from Pont du Garigliano to Pont du Tolbiac will remain open but only the residents, professionals, and tourists with tickets will be allowed to access these areas from July 18 to July 26.

French Government has also introduced Vehicular restriction perimeter. It says that all the areas in the anti-terrorist protection perimeter need to have prior permission to enter the area. If the security forces demand, the vehicle owners should provide valid documentation. Only emergency and security vehicles will be permitted to enter the area on the day of the opening ceremony.
