Has Neeraj Chopra become the first Indian athlete to win two Olympics Golds in individual events?
Neeraj Chopra finished second in the men's javelin throw final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He became the first Indian athlete to win a silver medal at this year's Olympics.
Fans had high hopes from Neeraj Chopra because he won a historic gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. Unfortunately for Neeraj, he could not top the final this time despite bettering his performance. In Tokyo, he won the gold with a throw of 87.58m, while in Paris, he finished second with a throw of 89.45m.
Thus, Neeraj Chopra did not become the first Indian athlete to win two Olympic gold medals in individual events. Chopra still became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold and silver medal in individual events.
He has joined Norman Pritchard, Sushil Kumar, Manu Bhaker, and PV Sindhu in the elite club of Indian athletes to have won two Olympic medals. Notably, Chopra is the only member of this club to own a gold medal.
Can Neeraj Chopra complete a hat-trick of medals at Los Angeles Olympics 2028?
Neeraj is still 26 years old, and he can continue playing for the next few years. The next Olympics will happen in Los Angeles in 2028. If Neeraj can continue in the same vein, he can become the first Indian to win three Olympic medals in individual events.
Also, Neeraj will once again have a chance to become the first Indian athlete to win two Olympic golds in individual events. It will be interesting to see if the javelin throw star can complete a hat-trick of medals in Los Angeles.
As far as the Paris 2024 Olympics are concerned, India have moved up to 64th position in the medal tally, thanks to the silver medal from Neeraj. This was India's first silver medal in Paris this year.
