How did Esha Singh qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024?
Esha Singh is the most promising young shooter in the Indian team headed to the Paris Olympics 2024. She is known for upsetting big names ever since her childhood, and more than that, the 19-year-old performs when under pressure.
Esha first rose to prominence when she defeated four-time Commonwealth Games medalists Heena Sidhu and Manu Bhaker at the age of 13. She won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the 2018 National Shooting Championships after defeating the experienced duo.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed much success at ISSF events and Asian Games. She earned the Olympic quota in the women's 10m air pistol after winning the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Shooting Championships. Esha qualified for the Olympic Selection Trials in both 10m air pistol and 25m air pistol events.
However, Esha Singh didn't qualify for the Paris Olympics in the women’s 10m air pistol event. She was placed fourth at the end of four stage trials.
But the 19-year-old was impressive over the 25m air pistol event. She regularly recorded scores above 585 and finished with an average final score of 584.07.
Esha's final average score placed her above Rhythm Sangwan for second place, while the top finish was secured by veteran Manu Bhaker. Esha and Manu were later named in the two-member women's 25m air pistol team for Paris Olympics 2024.
Can Esha Singh win a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024?
Esha Singh was among India's most successful shooters at the Asian Games in 2023. She bagged four medals, two each in women's 10m air pistol and 25m air pistol events. Her women's 25m air rifle team won the gold, while the rest three medals were silver.
With such success at a young age and the ability to shoot better under pressure, Esha will be a big threat to the Chinese shooters at the Paris Olympics. It wouldn't be a surprise if she wins something big in Paris.
The youngster consistently scores above 580 in the qualification rounds, and if she can slightly take that above 585, Esha should be returning with a medal from Paris.
