How did Jyothi Yarraji qualify for Paris Olympics 2024?
India’s 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji secured her Paris Olympics 2024 quota through the World Rankings route. Interestingly, this will be the first time an Indian athlete will be represented on the start list since the game’s induction into the Summer Games in 1972.
In the World Athletics Road to Paris rankings released recently, Jyothi was ranked at the 34th position for the women’s 100m hurdles event, making the cut among 40 athletes.
Hailing from Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, Jyothi could have bagged direct entry to the Paris Olympics 2024 if not for an injury to her leg she sustained at the Monet Grand Prix in Finland in May 2024. She clocked 12.78 seconds in the Finland meet, missing the qualification mark by only 0.01 seconds.
Most recently at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula, Haryana, Jyothi made a strong comeback, securing a gold medal, clocking 13.54 seconds.
