How many Indian players have qualified for Paris Olympics 2024?
A total of 110 Indian athletes have made the cut for the Paris Olympics 2024. At the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, India fielded 122 athletes, bagging seven medals, including one gold by Neeraj Chopra.
At the Paris Olympics, Indian athletes are scheduled to compete across 16 disciplines, comprising 65 male and 45 female athletes, participating in 69 events for 95 medals.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is all set to field 29 athletes in athletics — 17 males and 10 females. Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic champion javelin thrower, leads the athletics contingent.
Women's 100m hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, 400m racer Kiran Pahal, and 20km race walker Akshdeep Singh are a few of the prominent names that are part of the athletics contingent for the Games in Paris. Race walkers Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh were the first Indians to secure their Paris 2024 spots in athletics.
India to field its biggest shooting contingent at Paris Olympics 2024
Additionally, India will field a record number of 21 shooters in the French capital, aiming to clinch a medal after missing out at the last two Summer Games in Rio and Tokyo. The previous biggest shooting contingent was 15 in Tokyo in 2021.
Shooting events at the Paris Olympics 2024 will start with the 10m air rifle events on July 27 and conclude on August 5 with the skeet mixed team gold medal match.
Indian men's hockey team have 16 athletes in the main squad and three in the reserves. They secured their Paris Olympics 2024 spot after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.
Other sports that Indian athletes are competing in are Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Equestrian, Golf, Judo, Rowing, Sailing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.
