How did Sarvesh Kushare qualify for Paris Olympics 2024?
Hailing from Nashik, Maharashtra, the Indian high jumper Sarvesh Kushare qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 via the Road to Paris rankings released by the World Athletics. Sarvesh Kushare secured his Paris 2024 quota at the 23rd rank in the final updated rankings.
A total of 32 athletes will compete in the men's high jump event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nine athletes have qualified after surpassing the entry standard.
Other 23 players made the cut via the World Athletics Road to Paris Rankings. The entry standard for men’s high jump was set at 2.33m for the duration of July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.
Most recently, Sarvesh secured the gold at the Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula, Haryana with a record jump of 2.25m. It’s worth noting that Tejaswin Shankar, who jumped 2.29m at the Texas Tech Invite in Lubbock in April 2018, holds the national record.
Sarvesh Kushare started off the 2024 season on an impressive note
Sarvesh started off his 2024 season after bagging a title at the Bryan Clay Invitational 2024 at the Azusa Pacific University in Southern California in April. He recorded a clearance of 2.19m over the bar to finish first in his group.
Later in the same month, he finished with another title win at the Mt. SAC Relays 2024 athletics meet held at the Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, California. He finished with a jump of 2.23m to secure the top spot, achieving the season’s best jump. Though he tried to clear 2.28m, he failed to succeed with his three attempts.
Additionally, Sarvesh had an excellent 2023, competing in major international tournaments like the Asian Athletics Championships, World Athletics Championships, and the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
He secured a silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships with a jump of 2.26m. Notably, Kushare finished fourth at the Asian Games in Hangzhou 2023 with an effort of 2.26m. His personal best is at 2.27m, achieved at the National Games in Gujarat in 2022.
In 2018, Sarvesh Kushare created a new meet record at the 58th National Open Athletics Championships at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar with an effort of 2.24m. The previous meet record was held by VS Yadav at 2.23m.
