HS Prannoy wife: Who is the ace Indian shuttler married to?
On September 14, 2022, ace Indian shuttler HS Prannoy got married to his long-time girlfriend Swetha Rachel Thomas in a private ceremony in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Interestingly, he reached the pole position in the BWF World Tour rankings a week before his wedding.
Swetha Thomas, who was born in Kuwait, is a fashion content creator and has been working in Bengaluru for the last few years. The private wedding ceremony was attended by the couple’s close friends and family members.
He took to social media platforms X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, captioning the wedding pictures,
“D Day, Just Married.”
Several congratulatory messages flooded from the fans and fellow Indian sportspersons, who extended their best wishes to the couple. Saina Nehwal, Ashwini Ponnappa, Eldhose Paul, Bhavani Devi, and swimmer Sajan Prakash were among the well-wishers.
Post wedding, HS Prannoy bagged medals at World Championships and Asian Games
In February 2023, Prannoy played a pivotal role in ascending the Indian mixed team to the semi-finals of the 2023 Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships. However, in the semi-final, they suffered a defeat to China by 2-3 to settle for the bronze medal.
At the 2023 BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark in August, HS Prannoy settled for the bronze medal along with Anders Antonsen after losing the semi-final to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn by 21-18, 13-21, 14-21.
Later in October 2023, he secured another bronze medal after suffering a loss to Chinese shuttler Li Shifeng, the eventual champion, in the semi-final of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. In the same competition, he propelled the men’s team to a silver medal win.
He secured a BWF World Tour title in Malaysia Masters after defeating China's Weng Hongyang in the final in 2023. In the Australian Open 2023, he settled for a runner-up after losing to the same opponent in the final.
In the Paris Olympics 2024, HS Prannoy started Group K encounters with two consecutive wins against Germany’s Fabian Roth by 21-18, 21-12 and Vietnam’s DP Le by 16-21, 21-11, 21-12. However, he faced fellow Indian compatriot Lakshya Sen in the pre-quarter-final contest and suffered a defeat by 12-21, 6-21 to bow out of the competition.
