"I was consuming one roti and liquid diet" - Jaismine Lamboria opens up on her journey to secure Paris 2024 Olympics quota

Boxer Jaismine Lamboria, who recently qualified for Paris 2024 Olympics, shared her diet plans in her bid to adapt to the 57kg division. Predominantly a 60kg boxer, the young pugilist shed three kilograms and earned a quota place for India at the second Boxing Olympic qualifiers in Bangkok.

With Parveen Hooda getting suspended for whereabouts failure, India lost the Olympic quota at 57kg. As a result, the reserve boxer, Jaismine was asked to cut down weight to compete in the lower division.

Jaismine prevailed over Mali’s Marine Camara 5-0 in the quarter-finals of the Boxing Olympic qualifiers at Bangkok to book Paris 2024 Olympics berth. With the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) getting back their 57kg quota, Jaismine expressed happiness of her performance and wants to do well in Paris 2024 Olympics.

“India had high expectations of me. My dream was to go there and put my best foot forward. I have achieved one step now. Now, going forward, I want to do well,” Jaismine was quoted as saying by New Indian Express.

Although, cutting weight is a tough task, Jaismine worked with the BFI nutritionist to control her diet and achieve the required outcome.

"I had to control my diet too but it was nothing drastic," she added. "If I was consuming two-three rotis (breads), I was having one and instead relying on a liquid diet. It was not like I was starving myself."

Apart from Jaismine Lamboria, Nikhat Zareen (50kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Amit Panghal (51kg), and Nishant Dev (71kg) are the other pugilists qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

After getting a first-round bye, the 22-year-old competed directly in the quarterfinals against New Zealand's Troy Garton in the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She secured a 4-1 split decision win over Garton to enter the semi-finals.

Then, Jaismine Lamboria lost by a 3-2 split verdict in the women's 60kg lightweight semi-finals to Gemma Richardson. As a result, she had to settle for a bronze.
