“I am pretty sure performance-wise, 2024 is going to be the best” - Veteran paddler Sharath Kamal is confident heading to the Paris Olympics 2024
Indian veteran table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal is set to make his fifth appearance at the Olympics when he takes the field in Paris this year. Sharath, who will turn 42 on Friday, July 12, made his Olympics debut way back at the Athens 2004.
He has a total of 13 Commonwealth Games medals and two Asian Games medals under his belt. However, the ace paddler is yet to taste success at the Olympic Games.
Sharath Kamal is still in search of that elusive medal at the Olympics and is going to use all of his experience at the Paris Olympics 2024 to find his lost treasure.
During the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) season 5 player draft, Sharath, who was retained by Chennai Lions, talked about his favorite performance so far in his four appearances at the Olympics.
“For me, I had my best performance in Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2008. These two are most memorable as I reached the Round of 32, but I am pretty sure performance-wise, 2024 is going to be the best, and I am looking forward to it,” Sharath told Sportskeeda.
“It's going to be my last Olympics” - Sharath Kamal to bow out after the Paris Olympics 2024
The Paris Olympics 2024 will be the swansong of the veteran paddler Sharath Kamal. The Khel Ratna awardee revealed that he has no plans to play in the next Summer Games, i.e., the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
“It's going to be my last Olympics. I am not planning to play in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics,” added Sharath.
He will be the flag bearer for India alongside ace shuttler PV Sindhu in the prestigious event. Sharath will be aiming to hang up his boots on a positive note and secure a podium finish at the biggest sporting event.
