[In Pictures] India President Draupadi Murmu meets Indian contingent from Paris Olympics

On the auspicious day of India's Independence, India President Draupadi Murmu met with all the athletes from the Indian contingent that represented the country at the recently concluded Paris Olympics 2024. She lauded the athletes for their efforts and congratulated them for their performances.

India notably won six medals at the Paris Games and ended in the 71st spot overall. A reason behind such a downfall from the 48th position last time out is mainly due to the absence of a gold medal. India's neighbouring country Pakistan won just one medal - Arshad Nadeem's gold in javelin throw and finished in the 62nd spot.

The shooting contingent was the most successful this time out as they won three medals, two in the individual events and one in the mixed team discipline. However, there were a number of Indian athletes across various sports, who narrowly missed out on a podium finish, as they finished fourth in their respective events.

Who won the medals for India at the Paris Olympics?

India's medal hunt started early on in the Summer Games when 22-year-old shooter Manu Bhaker clinched a bronze in the women's 10m air pistol event. A few days later, she teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to win another bronze, this time in the mixed team 10m air pistol discipline.

Swapnil Kusale also won a bronze medal, participating in the men's 50m 3P sport. The Indian hockey team repeated their heroics from the Tokyo edition, as they returned from Paris with a shining bronze, defeating Spain in the process.

Aman Sehrawat, just 21, became India's youngest athlete at the recently concluded Summer Games to win a medal. He overcame Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico in the men's 57kg freestyle wrestling clash for the bronze medal.

India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra was considered a gold-medal hopeful as he had grabbed a debut gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. However, he finished second on the podium and had to settle for a silver.
