[In Pictures] Indian table tennis contingent sweats hard in intense camp ahead of Paris Olympics 2024
With the Paris Olympics 2024 just a few days away, the Indian table tennis contingent has finished their final set of training in Germany.
In an Instagram post shared by table tennis coach Anshul Garg, the Indian team and coaching staff can be seen in Germany posing before a table tennis board. The team is also pictured enjoying lunch outside in the streets.
Along with the eight-player table tennis contingent of India, the national team coach, Massimo Costantini, and other staff members can be seen in the pictures.
Who are the part of Indian table tennis contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024?
Under coach Massimo Costantini, the Indian table tennis team will take part in the men’s and women’s events at the Olympics for the first time.
The eight players selected include two reserve players, G Sathiyan and Ayhika Mukherjee. The team taking part in the men’s event includes A Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, and Manav Thakkar. Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath make up the team taking part in the women’s event.
The eight-person contingent is also double the previous highest tally of table tennis players sent by India to any Olympic event.
They will be part of the total of 172 athletes who will take part in five medal events (two men’s, two women’s, and one mixed event) in table tennis at the Paris Olympics 2024. The table tennis events will start on July 27 and will conclude on August 10.
Several of the Indian paddlers are making personal landmarks by appearing in Paris, with Manika Batra becoming only the second Indian table tennis player to appear at an Olympics for the third time.
Meanwhile, India’s flag bearer A Sharath Kamal becomes the fifth Indian athlete – alongside Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi, Abhinav Bindra, and Karni Singh – to take part in an Olympic edition for the fifth time.
