India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, met with the Indian contingent that is heading to the Paris Olympics in 2024. The interaction happened on Thursday, July 4, at PM Modi’s residence in New Delhi.
The gathering was a heartwarming send-off for the athletes. The Indian contingent was accompanied by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse, and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha.
PM Modi also interacted with the support staff of the Indian athletes, including badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and shooting sport high-performance director Pierre Beauchamp, among others.
PM Modi took the time to interact virtually with Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, boxer Nikhat Zareen, and two-time Olympic medalist shuttler PV Sindhu, expressing his confidence and best wishes for their upcoming performances.

PM Narendra Modi took to social media to extend his heartfelt wishes to India’s Olympic contingent heading to Paris.
“Interacted with our contingent heading to Paris for the Olympics. I am confident our athletes will give their best and make India proud. Their life journeys and success give hope to 140 crore Indians,” PM Narendra Modi wrote on X.
The Indian team will be sending close to 120 athletes to Paris with the hopes of bringing back a record tally of medals. During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, India secured a total of seven medals, their highest-ever, with Neeraj Chopra’s gold in men's javelin throw being the highlight.
The Paris Olympics 2024 is slated to commence on July 26 and will run until August 11. The Indian contingent will be participating in 16 sports with the hopes of bringing glory to the nation.
