“India have a lot to be proud of” – Abhinav Bindra praises shooters for improved performance in Paris Olympics 2024

Abhinav Bindra was impressed with how the Indian shooters performed in the Paris Olympics 2024. Over the last couple of weeks, India won six medals out of which three came in shooting. They also ended their 12-year-long wait for winning a medal in the quadrennial event after London 2012.

Manu Bhaker started with a medal in the women’s 10-metre Air Pistol event to open India’s account in Paris 2024. Thereafter, she won another medal in the team event along with Sarabjot Singh. Later, Swapnil Kusale became the first Indian to bag an Olympic medal in the men’s 50-metre Rifle Three Positions.

Bindra, who won the historic gold in Beijing 2008, was happy that the Indian shooters upped their game but also said that India has the potential to win more medals.

“There have been misses but everyone has fought well. Outcomes are important, but more than that, it is about seeing how you have improved as a nation in terms of performance. If you look at those elements, we have performed better than before. We would like to see more conversions to medals, but we have a lot to be proud of,” Abhinav Bindra told Jio Cinema.

Manu Bhaker has taught everyone about resilience: Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra also heaped praise on Manu for bouncing back after the unfortunate occurring in Tokyo. Three years ago, Manu failed to qualify for the finals after her pistol malfunctioned.

“She has taught everyone about resilience, how to sail well and bounce back from disappointment. The greatest moment was when she finished qualification on day one, I saw a picture of hers and she did not have a smile on her face. That told me she was going to do well,” Bindra added.

Manu became the second Indian after Norman Pritchard to win more than one medal in a single edition of the Olympics. She also joined PV Sindhu as one of two Indian women to win multiple medals in the showpiece event.
