India medals in Olympics 2024: How many gold, silver and bronze medals did India win at Paris?

A total of 110 athletes were part of the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024, held from July 26 to August 11. The Summer Games in Paris was India's 26th appearance at the Olympics.

Indian athletes managed to bag a total of six medals at the Games in Paris - one silver and five bronze medals. Comparatively, India bagged seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, including one gold medal.

Manu Bhaker opened India’s medal tally on July 28. Having qualified for the final of the women’s 10m air pistol event, she secured bronze with a score of 221.7 in the final, making her the first female shooter from India to bag a medal.

Manu Bhaker continued her good form in the mixed 10m air pistol event, finishing third in the qualification round to make the cut for the bronze medal match. On July 30, the Indian duo Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh defeated South Korea’s Oh Ye-Jin and Lee Won-Ho to secure the bronze medal.

Two days later, on August 1, 50m rifle three positions shooter Swapnil Kusale qualified for the final after securing the seventh spot in the qualifying round.

Though he started off on a slow note in the final, he recovered well in prone and standing positions to move up the leaderboard. Kusale eventually finished third, to go home with the bronze medal.

India’s fourth medal came from the Indian men’s hockey team, on August 8. Having qualified for the knockouts with a second-place finish, they faced Great Britain in the quarter-final but went down to 10 men as Amit Rohidas received a red card.

Nevertheless, they showed exceptional resilience to bag a thrilling win and move to the semi-final against Germany. They suffered defeat there, but guaranteed a place for themselves in the bronze medal match.

The side then stunned Spain with a 2-1 win to bag their second consecutive bronze medal. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh ended the campaign as the top-scorer with 10 goals.

India’s fifth medal came on the same day, when reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra took part in the men’s javelin throw final. He produced his season-best 89.45m throw, but Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem threw 92.97m to secure the gold medal, forcing Chopra to settle for silver.

A day later, men’s freestyle wrestler Aman Sehrawat defeated Darian Cruz from Puerto Rico in the bronze medal bout to secure India’s sixth and final medal of the campaign. It was India's first medal in wrestling at Paris 2024.
