Jaismine Lamboria loses to Nesthy Petecio’s experience and agility
Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria started the match in an energetic manner, firing a flurry of punches at Nesthy Petecio. However, Petecio showed off her experience and agility, bending at the knee and ducking under the wide shots of Lamboria.
Despite a series of straight shots, Lamboria failed to land many punches at Petecio, who bode her time in a cagey opening round, in which Lamboria lost 4:1.
Despite being 32 years old, Petecio showed quick feet and used excellent movement to move away from the majority of Lamboria’s hits, and the Filipina pugilist controlled the tempo in the second round as well, winning it 5:0.
After losing the opening two rounds, Lamboria needed an unexpected miracle to win the bout, but Petecio came to life during the last part of the game, landing a nice left hook on the Indian featherweight boxer. The latter, despite showing excellent technique and movement, could not do much damage to her opponent.
At the end of the tense affair, Petecio won the game with a unanimous decision from the judges, ending Jaismine Lamboria’s journey at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
She was the second Indian boxer to lose on the night, with Amit Panghal going down against Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba. However, Indian boxers will continue their journey in Paris, with boxer Preeti Pawar competing in the women’s 54 kg event later on Tuesday.
