Indian Athletics at Paris 2024 Olympics: List of athletes set to qualify through world rankings quota

The Paris 2024 Olympics are less than a month away. While the Indian contingent is gearing up for the mega event in France, there is good news as nine more Indian track and field athletes have qualified for the Olympics. They have confirmed their quotas via the final ranking list published by World Athletics after the qualification period came to an end on 30 June 2024.

Steeplechaser Parul Chaudhary, after booking her spot in the women's 5000m, became the only Indian to qualify for two events at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She had previously qualified for the 3000m steeplechase by breaching the Olympic qualification mark at the 2023 World Championships.

Asian champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor booked his quota in the men's shotput while Sarvesh Anil Kushare secured his spot in the men's high jump. In the men's triple jump event, Praveen Chitravel and Abdualla Aboobacker sealed their berth.

Meanwhile, Asian Games gold medalist Annu Rani also booked her berth in the women's javelin throw. Jyothi Yarraji confirmed her spot in the 100m hurdles, making her the first-ever Indian woman to feature in the event at the Olympics. National record holder Abha Khatua will feature in the women's shot put.

DP Manu has also qualified as the third Indian athlete in men's javelin throw after Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena. However, there is speculation over his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics due to alleged doping charges.

Jeswin Aldrin is placed at the 33rd position in the rankings, just one place out of qualification. However, with Murali Sreeshankar ruled out due to injury, Jeswin could likely make the cut.

With more athletes making it to the Paris 2024 Olympics, India's chances of winning more medals are further bolstered, which would lift the confidence of the nation as well.
