Indian government provides air conditioning to Paris Olympics 2024 athletes to beat the heat
The Indian government has provided air conditioning to members of the country’s contingent in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. The move will help the 127-member contingent representing the nation to beat the rising temperatures in the French capital, which has climbed up to 35 degrees Celsius and higher.
Indian racewalker Priyanka Goswami posted a video on Instagram in which she replaced a fan with a portable air conditioner, which has been provided by the government.
“Finally, we can beat the hot weather of Paris!! Thanks to our government @mansukhmandviya @media.iccsai for providing these ACs to make our stay comfortable,” Goswami wrote in the caption of the video. “We can get better rest and sleep now.”
Meanwhile, 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalist Priyankav had a disappointing start to the Paris Olympics 2024. The Kolkata-born racewalker finished in the 41st position among 45 athletes in the women’s 20km race walk on Thursday.
She finished the race with a disappointing timing of 1:28:45 – way behind the 1:25.54 clocked by China’s Yang Jiayu.
After her disappointing performance in the individual event, Priyanka Goswami will take part in the race walk mixed marathon event on August 7 along with Suraj Panwar.
France under heatwave alert as temperatures touch 35 degrees during Paris Olympics 2024
Despite heavy rainfall during the opening ceremony and the initial days, Paris has seen rising temperatures throughout the week, with the mercury touching 35 degrees and higher in several places of the French capital. In fact, most of France is under a heat wave warning, as per the French National Weather Agency.
The Paris Olympic Games were supposed to be an eco-friendly one, with the authorities opting to use a geothermal cooling system in the Olympic Village. However, as a result of the high temperatures, the Paris Olympics 2024 authorities were forced to install around 2500 portable air conditioners in the Olympic Village before the start of the Games.
