Indian trap shooters bow out of ISSF Shotgun Olympic Qualification Championships without a quota for Paris Olympics 2024

Indian trap shooters, who were aiming for two out of the remaining four Olympic spots, bowed out of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun Olympic Qualifiers 2024 in Doha on Tuesday without a quota for the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.

It’s important to note that India has already clinched a record 20 out of the maximum available 24 quotas across rifle, pistol, and shotgun events.

A total of four more quotas were available for the Paris Olympics 2024 from the ongoing Doha Qualifiers across four shotgun categories - men’s trap, women’s trap, men’s skeet, and women’s skeet.

However, with trap shooters failing to clinch the spots, Indian skeet shooters will be aiming to clinch the remaining two spots available for the Paris Olympics 2024 across men’s and women’s categories.

Vivaan Kapoor, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman are in the men’s trap while Shreyasi Singh and young Manisha Keer are part of the women’s trap squad. Let’s take a look at how exactly the third and final day of qualifiers panned out in Doha.

Indian trap shooters put up a dismal performance in Doha Qualifiers

Moving to the details of the Qualifiers on the third and final day, Prithviraj Tondaiman finished at the 23rd rank, the best achieved by an Indian trap shooter in the qualifiers with 24, 22, 25, 23, 25, totaling 119.

On the other hand, Vivaan Kapoor settled for the 56th rank with scores of 23, 21, 22, 25, and 25, totaling 116 in five rounds. Zoravar Singh Sandhu bagged the 82nd rank with shots of 24, 23, 22, 21, and 24, accumulating a total of 114.

Meanwhile, in the women's trap, Manisha Keer secured the 37th rank with a total of 111. Neeru and Shreyasi Singh racked up a total of 107 and 106 to make it to the 55th and 56th positions, respectively.

Notably, the top six shooters from both men’s and women’s categories will qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024.

Remarkably, India fielded a 15-strong squad in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. With trap shooters failing to make it to the Paris Olympics 2024 from Doha Qualifiers, Bhowneesh Mendiratta and Rajeshwari Kumari are the only trap shooters from India to qualify for the quadrennial event.
