Indian trap shooters unlikely to grab Paris Olympics 2024 spots from Doha Qualifiers
Indian trap shooters will aim for two out of the remaining four Paris Olympics 2024 spots in the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shotgun Olympic Qualifiers 2024 in Doha.
India has already secured a record 20 quotas across rifle, pistol, and shotgun events. Four more quotas are available for the Paris Olympics 2024 from the ongoing Doha Qualifiers across four shotgun categories - men’s trap, women’s trap, men’s skeet, and women’s skeet.
Vivaan Kapoor, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman are in the men’s trap while Shreyasi Singh and young Manisha Keer are part of the women’s trap. Let’s take a look at how exactly the second day of qualifiers happened in Doha.
Indian shooters put up a dismal performance in Doha Qualifiers for Paris Olympics 2024
Moving to the details of the Qualifiers, Indian trap shooters put in a dismal performance after the second day of qualifications in Doha on Monday, April 22.
Held at the Lusail Shooting range, Prithviraj Tondaiman shot rounds of 24, 22, 25, and 23 in the men's trap to end the day in the 47th spot. He has a total of 94 over four rounds with one more round left to play ahead of the finals, where the top six qualify.
Vivaan Kapoor stood at the 87th rank with a total of 91 across four rounds. The third trap shooter in the men's category, Zoravar Singh Sandhu is at the 111th spot with a total of 90.
In women's trap, Manisha Keer is the best-placed Indian. Her four-round tally of 89 has placed her in the 38th spot. Among other Indian women's trap shooters, Neeru held the 41st rank with a total of 89 after the first four rounds. Shreyasi Singh is at the 58th rank with a total of 84.
Only the top two shooters in each event, with a maximum of one per country, can secure quota, provided their nation hasn’t already attained its full allocation.
A successful performance by Indian trap shooters would have propelled India’s shooting contingent at the Paris Olympics 2024 to unprecedented numbers. India fielded a 15-strong squad in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
