“Kept saying they are medal dark horse” - Netizens react as Anantjeet Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan qualify for skeet mixed team bronze-medal match

Indian shooters Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan have qualified for the bronze-medal playoff match of the skeet mixed team event in the Paris 2024 Olympics after coming in fourth position in the qualification round on Monday (August 5).

Netizens took to social media to rejoice at another medal opportunity for the Indian shooting contingent, with one fan writing on X:

“Kept saying they are medal dark horse. Reason is Naruka is Asiad medalist, Chauhan did well in women's QF round. Still, hope they can hold nerve to deliver historic medal.”
“Something unimaginable has happened. Our Mixed Skeet team consisting of Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka are in the Finals!” another fan posted on X. “Who would have thought a Skeet pair to enter Finals from India!!”

More fans joined in celebrating the skeet shooters from Rajasthan, with one writing:

“Marvelous effort from Maheshwari Chauhan & Anant Jeet Singh Naruka. India are in the final/medal round of a shotgun event at the Olympics after 20 years. Only previous instance was Rajvavardhan Singh Rathore in 2004.”
“Nobody expected this but silently our mixed skeet team of Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjit Naruka has qualified for the Bronze medal match scheduled at 6:30 PM IST. Brilliant composure from them as it was really close in the end. Let's get behind them🇮🇳,” one fan wrote.

One fan simply bemoaned the lack of media attention given to the skeet mixed team event, writing:

“From what I gather, there's exactly 1 Indian journalist at the shooting range at Chateauroux. Everyone else had returned to Paris. Don't think too many expected Maheshwari Chauhan & Anantjeet Naruka to reach the 🥉 playoff! Very nearly a Kapil Dev 175 in the 1983 WC situation!”

Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan to face off against Chinese opponents in skeet mixed team event bronze playoff

After coming in fourth place in the qualification rounds, Anantjeet and Maheshwari will face China’s Jiang Yiting and Lyu Jianlin in the bronze-medal playoff match.

The Indian shooting contingent has already won three bronze medals in the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024, and Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Maheshwari Chauhan will have the chance to add to that unprecedented tally if they win against their opponents from China in the skeet mixed team bronze-medal match on Monday at 6:30 pm IST.
