Lakshya Sen Brother: All you need to know about Chirag Sen
Chirag Sen, the elder brother of star shuttler and Olympian Lakshya Sen, is a professional badminton player himself. The 26-year-old hails from Almora in Uttarakhand and belongs to a family of badminton players.
Chirag was born the elder of the two sons to DK Sen, who was himself a shuttler and Chirag's first coach. His grandfather Chandra Lal Sen also won several medals while competing in the various All India Civil Services tournaments.
In fact, Chirag was more inclined to the sport of the two brothers. As a budding athlete, he went to the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru.
Chirag first showed glimpses of his talent by winning the silver medal in the boy's singles event at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in China. He was also instrumental in honing the passion for Badminton in Lakshya. When he went to train in Bengaluru, Chirag took his younger brother with him and got him involved in the sport.
By winning the Senior National Badminton Championships in 2023, Chirag Sen announced himself in impressive fashion. Chirag then joined Lakshya as part of the Indian team for the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships in Malaysia, bringing much joy to the Sen family.
Chirag Sen and his many achievements in the world of badminton
Though Chirag Sen has yet to achieve as much global recognition as his brother, he has been a successful shuttler in his own right. Chirag won the men's singles title at the 2017 Bulgarian International Championships.
At the 2018 Junior Championships in Jakarta, Chirag won another gold medal. He became only the third shuttler to do so since Gautam Thakkar and Sameer Verma. In 2019, he clinched the Belgian International Title and reached the finals of the China Masters and Polish Open.
Following his excellent performance in the 2019 season, Chirag broke into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) top 100 rankings. Winning the men's singles title at the 2023 Senior National Championships was special as this is an achievement that has eluded even the more accomplished Lakshya Sen.
