Lakshya Sen meets generational talent Carlos Alcaraz before Paris Olympics 2024
Lakshya Sen and Prakash Padukone got the chance to meet Carlos Alcaraz before the Paris Olympics 2024. The 22-year-old Lakshya is set to make his debut in the quadrennial event to be held from July 26 to August 11. Expectations will be high from the ace Indian shuttler, who has climbed the ladder in the last couple of years.
Back in 2022, Lakshya was a part of the Indian team that won the Thomas Cup. He also won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Last year, he did well in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, winning the silver medal.
He will be one of the top medal contenders for India in badminton along with the likes of HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu. No Indian man has won a badminton medal in the Olympics until now, with Sindhu and Saina Nehwal achieving the landmark in the women’s category.
Can Carlos Alcaraz make it big in the Olympics?
For Carlos Alcaraz, 2024 has been nothing short of stupendous. Although he missed out on the Australian Open, the Spaniard has not put a foot wrong since then. He won the French Open title earlier this year after beating Alexander Zverev in the final.
Thereafter, he got the better of the legendary Novak Djokovic in the final of the Wimbledon men’s singles earlier this month. Alcaraz defeating the Serb in straight sets showed the form he has been in. He is also one of the few players, along with Rafael Nadal, to win titles at Roland Garros and SW19 in the same year.
Carlos Alcaraz is one of the top contenders to win the gold medal in the Olympics, especially after World No.1 Jannik Sinner pulled out due to tonsillitis. Apart from taking part in singles, Alcaraz, who has won Grand Slams on all three surfaces, will also partner Nadal in men’s doubles at the showpiece event in Paris.
